Chinese White
Whiteness of porcelain
Chinese White is a watercolor pigment named for its resemblance to the bright, cool whiteness of fine Chinese porcelain. I painted at Beijing’s Panjiayuan porcelain market, capturing a dragon inspired by the seals used in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting.
Just as I finished, a Chinese calligrapher working in a nearby jewelry shop wrote the name of the place in ink, stamped the page with his personal seal, and gifted me one of his own works.
