Lapis Lazuli
Precious blue from Afghanistan
Lapis lazuli is primarily sourced in Afghanistan. Although I didn’t cross the border, I followed the river that separates Afghanistan and Tajikistan. From the Tajik riverbank, I painted the Afghan side with genuine lapis lazuli while sitting beside a stone defense wall, just before a Tajik border patrol passed by.
