Cochineal
Dyeing tradition of carpets
Cochineal is a traditional red dye used to color wool for carpet weaving. I painted a woman weaving a Turkish carpet using genuine cochineal and a synthetic madder watercolor for contrast, then attached sample wool threads used by the weavers.
